OSX quick tip – Screenshots 0

You probably already use the supplied app Grab for screenshots or numerous other free apps for this but did you know it’s Command-Shift-3 that actually gives you an entire screenshot. That will leave an image on your desktop as a PNG file, you can even hit Command-Shift-4, and get a little crosshair to select only a portion of your screen and do the same thing.

But if you need to get this straight into an image editing app, try this instead!

Hit Control-Command-Shift-3 (or 4)

This will copy the image to your clipboard, so you can simply paste it into your editing program of choice.

Vienna – Mac RSS reader 0

I love RSS and did until recently use the built in RSS reader in the Flock browser, but after they completely removed themselves I started using Google reader which is a great online reader although I find that it wouldn’t mark all my posts as ‘read’ which gets a little annoying after a while.

Vienna RSS reader

So I have now though found this excellent little program called Vienna (which is free), and have been test driving it for a few days and find it to be a great addition to my apps. I exported all my feeds from Google Reader, as you have the option to import your feeds directly into Vienna. It also does mark all my ‘read’ posts properly, the only thing that I found more useful with Google Reader was it’s ability to contiunously scroll from one article to the next actually if you go to view options and select ‘unified’ you can read and scroll from one story to the next. An excellent and free app!

Senuti – copy music from your iPod to your computer 0

A handy and FREE program to copy your iTunes music to any computer (mac of course).

Senuti - for your iPod

Senuti is a simple application for transfering songs from your iPod back to your computer.

There are many good reasons that someone would have to transfer music from her iPod back to her computer. There are many good ways to do it, too. Senuti is the only alternative that will give you the power and convenience that you need, wrapped in an interface that is extremely easy to use, at a cost that you can’t complain about.

Lightning fast There’s a little file on your iPod called the iTunesDB file. What does that mean to you? Nothing. What does that mean to me? Everything. Every bit of information on every song on your iPod is stored in this little file. Every bit of information on your playlists is stored in this file, too. It’s how iTunes knows what’s on your iPod. It’s how your iPod knows what’s there, too. There isn’t a much faster way to figure out what’s on your iPod.
Finding Songs Senuti includes all of the built in options that one would expect to find songs. You can search and sort in any combination of ways that you want. That’s not quite enough sometimes, though. Sometimes you might want to know if you’re copying the right song. Know how it goes, but don’t know if that title is quite right? Play it! That’s right, Senuti will play songs directly off of your iPod. It can even double as a jukebox player for your Shuffle or any other iPod.
Playlists Senuti not only reads the playlists that you made on your iPod, but it allows you to transfer them back to your computer as well. A simple drag and drop action within the application will not only copy songs to your computer and and add them to iTunes, but it will make a new playlist with the same name and add all of the songs to that list.
Seamless Integration Adding songs to your computer, you’re probably going to add them to iTunes right after that, right? What if you didn’t have to, wouldn’t that be great? Well you don’t have to. Senuti will do all of the work for you. What work you want it to do is up to you. You can have songs added to iTunes if you want. You can have all of your music organized into folders by artist and album, too. The option’s yours.

Removing the line break from an HTML heading tag 0

If you ever have the problem of needing to have an H1 tag on textual navigation at the top of the page (or anywhere on a page), and you find that you have an unexpected line break. Make sure to add this selector to your CSS:

H1 { display: inline; }

This will then remove that line break for you, handy tip..

Stattoo – info for your mac 0

Having found this handy app produced by “Panic I found it not only visually helpful but elegant addition to my desktop. You just drag and drop the info you want displayed on your desktop, such as weather, drive space, iCal events, battery and email. The only thing I found that you would want is more options to place things in the application. It also has the habit of forgetting what you have placed in use when you restart your mac, other than that another fine product from panic.
